Audio Story Images

Description

Very simple, unique and exciting plugin that allows the bloggers to link an image to an audio file through the Media Library. Automatically, a little play icon will be added on your images in your posts. That way, you can give another dimension to your images thanks to sounds, music or voice-over. Here is a very simple example.

BETA. This plugin was just created. We are waiting for the first feedbacks of our users to decide which way to go. We have many ideas for it but we prefer to hear from you first. We will keep it clean, consistent and excellent.

BE KIND. Again, this plugin is new. Please don’t attack us. We are starting it. Please help us 🙂

IDEAS. Tell an audio story behind each image rather than text (the text should focus on SEO instead, be an excerpt of the story). Use cinemagraphs instead of normal images and have the audio track synchronized with it. Write a post with photos taken around your home, with the associated background audio. Write a post with portraits, each of them will say a simple sentence with their own voice. Etc…

Features

  • Link images to audio files through the Media Library
  • Audio Story meta box in the attachment edit sidebar
  • Autoplay when images come into view (with smart browser compatibility)
  • Visual play/pause controls on images
  • Support for MP3 and WAV audio formats
  • Support for JPEG, PNG and GIF image formats

How Audio Story Works

Linking Audio to Images:
1. Go to Media Library (list view) or edit any media file
2. Use the “Audio Story” column or meta box to attach files
3. Images can be linked to audio files, and vice versa
4. Once linked, a play button appears on the image in your posts

Autoplay Feature:
* Enable autoplay by checking “Autoplay when image comes into view” in the attachment edit screen
* When visitors scroll and the image becomes visible, audio plays automatically
* Due to browser security policies:
– If the visitor has already interacted with your site, audio plays immediately
– On first visit, a subtle notice appears: “Click anywhere to enable audio”
– After any click/tap, all autoplay audio will work normally
– The play button pulses to indicate audio is ready

Quickstart

  1. Upload audio files and image files to your Media Library
  2. In the Media Library list view, use the Audio Story column to link files
  3. Or edit any image/audio file and use the Audio Story meta box in the sidebar
  4. Optionally enable autoplay for automatic playback when images come into view
  5. Your images now have audio! Visitors can click the play button or experience autoplay

Quick and easy installation:

  1. Upload the folder audio-story-images to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory.
  2. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress.
  3. Check the Quickstart in the Description.

Congratulations on developing this useful plugin. Please, if possible, play the music by clicking on the image and not needing to touch the speaker icon.
Thank you

Brilliant

I love your plugin. It's exactly what I was looking for. I have web site about the valencian language with large amounts of images in galleries and some of them need exactly this, a way to attach an audio file where the visitors can check how each wor on a picture is pronounced. I did a test page with a gallery made in wp block editor (whoch is very poor) and it works perfectly. I could also manage to change icon size and colour, as explained by you in this support formum. The big issue is, that I use the foogalllery plugin for al my image galleries and obviously inside these galleries the icon won't appear and the audio won't be able to launch. Do you know about other free galleries which support your plugin? Is there a workaround to manage issues in third party gallery plugins, adding some code?? Great work Jorge and Co.!!

Excelente!! Me encanta!!!

The Best Plugin I have ever used so far!

By Daveyap on December 1, 2018

My earlier review was deleted by the Forum Admin for unknown reasons, perhaps because I had placed a link to the website where I had installed it to showcase it in action. This is without any doubt the best plugin I have ever used! I did up my brother in-law's business website for free to repay his past kindness to me. He made a simple request to have an audio and speaker icon to be attached to an image so that when you clicked on the speaker icon on the image, the audio recording will be heard. I searched all over the Internet for 2 whole weeks without success and was shocked that till today, no one was able or had bothered to create tool or plugin to attach sound to an image. Thus, you cannot imagine my immense relief when I chanced upon this wonderful plugin which was exactly what I needed to fulfill my brother in-law's request. The plugin in developer was very prompt and helpful in providing me with the codes to turn the default white colour audio speaker icon to black in color so that it can be used on all images with white or light colors backgrounds. It is most unfortunate and a shame that this awesome but grossly underrated plugin has been virtually ignored by everyone. It is such an incredibly useful plugin and I really do hope the developer will be able to add further improvements to this wonder plugin down the road!
