Description

Author Chat is an internal chat that let your authors (users with access to admin panel) to chat with each other. It is easy to use. All chat data is stored in database. You can also configure how many days chat history should be stored in database, change the interval time for the verification of new messages, show or hide our name in the messages and many more.

Author Chat now supports private chat/chat rooms.

You can also download Author Chat client for Android, and run chat on your smartphone. App is available here: Google Play

If you wish to translate plugin, just add your translation file to /lang/ folder.

Using 3rd party service

Please note that this plugin is relying on a 3rd party service, which is the Google Firebase Cloud Messaging service (FCM) and your data is being sent through their servers via HTTP API (https://fcm.googleapis.com/fcm/send). This is very legal to use the Google Firebase Cloud Messaging service (FCM), based on their terms and conditions https://firebase.google.com/terms/.

Installation

Upload the zip to ‘plugins’ directory
Unzip (steps 1 and 2 can also be performed automatically)
Activate the plugin
Plugin is visible in a dashboard

Or just add .zip file as a new plugin in your WordPress administration panel.

A couple of suggestions

It is a really stable and useful plugin. If it had an 'author is typing' like Messenger it would be awesome. One other suggestion, be able to post images. Do those and it would be even better.

Purchased the premium no support

You can not use the smaller chat window unless you pay for the premium. The price was right so I purchased it. When I went to activate the smaller chat window it prompted me again to pay for premium to use that feature. There were no prompts or instructions on how to activate the premium feature after you have paid. I have sent emails and even opened a ticket on paypal but have yet to receive any response. There doesn't seem to be any support available for this product. At this point I am feeling like I have been scammed.

Simplistic, which is exactly what I needed

All I needed was a simple plugin that allows communication between users that have access to the dashboard and this plugin does exactly that. There is only one minor complaint which is that the plugin uses a currentuserinfo function that has been deprecated since WordPress 4.5. Until the plugin is updated, this can easily be fixed by replacing that function with wp_get_current_user.

Great plugin but it would be A LOT better if ...

... You add the possibility to chat within any page inside the admin.

Like keeping the chat toggle at the bottom of the screen while navigating inside the admin. A dashboard tab is a bit limited in regards to communication between authors.

Similar to the front-end classic chat systems but within the admin.

Love this plugin, makes it very easy to collaborate regarding changes on the site. Just one feature I would love to have added - email notification of new messages. It would be great if it could be a choice for each user, too. But that's not a deal killer - still a great little plugin! Thanks so much for your hard work in coding and sharing it with us!

Nice plugin overall. Just some few features request.

Add option to ban a specific user from chat for specific period of time (irrespective of his/her role)
Add option to put chat feature on hold for specific time so that nobody will be able to text in that time
Make chat UI more user-friendly. Like you can see WhatsApp smartphone chat app for instance
Add option to choose between 'display name' or 'username' or 'both' at the place of username of sender

Please consider adding these features. This plugin has no comparison so far though 😉
