Bulk Change Media Author

Description

This is a very simple plugin that allows you to bulk change author for media files.

The action is added in the “List” view of the Media Library.

Installation

Upload the plugin files to the /wp-content/plugins/bulk-change-media-author directory, or install the plugin through the WordPress plugins screen directly.
Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ screen in WordPress.

The new bulk action is added into Bulk Actions dropdown menu for "List" view of the Media Library.

Faq

Can I change the author in bulk in the “Grid” view?

Not yet.

There’s only 20 media items per page in the “List” view, but I want to change more at a time!

Open “Screen Options” at the top-right in the Media Library and change the value of “Number of items per page” in the “Pagination” section.

Can I quickly change the author for all media uploaded by particular user?

If you apply “Change Author” in the Media Library without selecting any media, it will prompt you to filter media by user. After that, you will be able to change the author for all media uploaded by that user.

This is a fantastic plugin from a good developer.

As of Sep 2023 it now works with WordPress 6.3.1

I never like to issue SQL updates against a live database. But this plugin offers an easy way to change the author on all media in just a few clicks. It's a real timesaver.

Works with WordPress 5.7.1

I used it on WordPress 5.7.1. The plugin does what it should do. I do not want to use the admin user any longer for security reasons. So I assigned all the posts and media file to a different user.

So easy to change ownership of media files now. Great for when you want users of the site to only have access to their own files. Very neat and clear interface when you actually change the ownership of the files.

When adding a new Contributor to a site I wanted to give them access to some pre-existing media files using the View Own Media Posts Only plugin. As all the existing files had been created by Admin, I needed to change the ownership of some of the files (pictures / PDFs / .doc files). This plugin was simple but did exactly what I needed it to.
