Categories in Hierarchical Order

Description

Gutenberg Editor already maintains the parent-child relationship when you select a category. So the child doesn’t move at the top in the category meta box. So this plugin isn’t required if you’re using the Gutenberg Editor.

Categories in Hierarchical Order plugin applies to WordPress Classic Post Editor only.

This plugin contains functionality to let you maintain default hierarchical order of categories when you select and save them for a post in your WordPress Admin Classic Post Editor.

The selected category/categories, to which a post belongs, are by default pushed at the top in the Category tab while saving the post. Whereas activating Categories in Hierarchical Order plugin will keep the position of selected category/categories unchanged as per their parent/child relationship.

For support, use support page available here or visit the page at our official website. A GitHub repo is also there to post issues, contribution and feature requests.

This section describes how to install the Plugin and get it working.

Indispensable for Hierarchical Categories

By sharonvillines on March 6, 2019

Don't understand why this plug-in doesn't have more reviews. It's one of the first I install. I have sites with a subject category and then a subject-date category. this allows me to keep the dates with the categories without naming them with both the category and the date. Otherwise, I would see 1978 chosen but not be able to check that I had chosen photos>1978 or notes>1978. Repeating the category name with every date would add twice the number of terms in far too many places.

Brilliant!

Why is this not part of the WordPress core yet? This plugin fixed my ugly looking category structure! Thanks guys!

Does exactly what should be the default option in WordPress, great! Sorely needed if you have many categories (possibly with very similar names) and rely on a complex hierarchy.

This should be default behavior

Hi there, Thanks for the plugin, this should be default behaviour. It's on of the most asked questions by my clients. Thanks for coding and sharing.

Works great!

Does exactly what you expect from this plugin. Nice!

Does just what I needed!

I was disappointed that WordPress core on the Edit Post page doesn't display Categories hierarchically (except for the ones you've already selected). That is very confusing to my clients (and me). This plugin displays the Categories the way I expected them to be displayed in the first place - in a proper tree. Well done!
