Contribute

Admin Columns is open source and community-driven. There are several ways to contribute:

Automatic installation

  1. Visit Plugins > Add New in your WordPress dashboard
  2. Search for “Admin Columns”
  3. Install and Activate Admin Columns from your Plugins page
  4. Visit Settings > Admin Columns to create your first column set

Manual installation

  1. Download the plugin from WordPress.org
  2. Upload the codepress-admin-columns folder to /wp-content/plugins/
  3. Activate the plugin through the Plugins screen
  4. Visit Settings > Admin Columns to get started

After activation

Is Admin Columns free?

Can I edit content directly from the list table?

How do I reset my column settings?

You can reset column settings from the column settings page by clicking “Restore columns” in the sidebar. This restores the default WordPress columns for that screen. See our getting started guide for more details.

What filters and hooks can I use?

Very helpful for tracking and editing custom field data

This plugin is very useful for basic improvements to the WP dashboard GUI, e.g. displaying a featured image in the Posts listing screen so editors can see which posts are missing images. Good for cleanup after a migration or redesign.

If you have custom data, e.g. a custom post type with custom fields, it's indispensable for displaying the field data right on the listing screen. It makes it a lot easier to track down and edit data. With the Pro version, you can edit the fields right on the listing screen without having to click into each post.

The humans doing plugin support are prompt, courteous, and helpful.

I'm not sure why this isn't something available by default without the need for a plugin. But since it isn't, it is nice to be able to add it back in where it belongs.

Unnecessary columns made the default post list look awful. Specifically, when the post title column width was small, the title would appear split across multiple lines. After using Admin Columns to reduce the number of columns to just the essentials, the list became cleaner and more visually appealing.

In the past I used a plug-in that created a sidebar widget with the number of comments posted by each student on my class blogs, but that plug-in went the way of all flesh, and I found Admin Columns as an acceptable substitute. I quickly added a Comments column to the Users page, and voila! I can see how many comments have been posted by each student.

It feels like there’s no clear update plan for this plugin. Changes are made and released without thorough testing, bugs are discovered afterward, and then another update is pushed. This leads to daily updates, which is extremely annoying

  • [Added] Custom Field column: the counting field type is split into “Number of Values”, which counts the values within one custom field and no longer always shows 1, and “Number of Fields”, which counts how often the field is stored and is the sortable one of the two. Existing columns become “Number of Values”.
  • [Fixed] A fatal error occurred when the property of a Parent column was set to a custom field with the Color, Date, HTML or True / False field type.
  • [Fixed] Custom Field column: a Date field set to “Auto Detect” showed an empty cell on the Parent column.
