Convert to AVIF and Optimise
Convert to AVIF and Optimise
Description
Convert to AVIF and Optimise automatically converts media library images to AVIF, stripping metadata, keeping your original uploads alongside the new files and updating all of your content to reference the optimised versions. The plugin keeps featured images, site logos, page builders, widgets and other stored URLs aligned with the converted image paths.
Key features
- Automatic optimisation of newly uploaded JPEG, PNG and WebP files into AVIF.
- Bulk optimisation tool that updates every post, page, featured image and option referencing your media.
- Adjustable quality target so you can choose the balance between fidelity and file size.
- Optional metadata stripping and original files retained beside the AVIF copies to keep your workflow flexible.
- British English interface copy to keep everything consistent for UK sites.
Installation
- Upload the plugin files to the
/wp-content/plugins/convert-to-avif-and-optimisedirectory, or install the plugin through the WordPress Plugins screen directly. - Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ screen in WordPress.
- Visit Settings Convert to AVIF & Optimise to configure the optimisation behaviour.
- Use the Bulk optimisation tab to convert your existing media library items.
Faq
Yes. The plugin leaves your original upload untouched and saves the AVIF version alongside it, updating WordPress to use the optimised copy. If you ever want to revert, simply change the URL or re-select the original image in your content.
The bulk optimiser scans post content, excerpts, post meta and the options table so URLs saved by page builders, featured images, theme customiser settings and similar locations will be kept aligned with the new AVIF file.
Set your preferred quality level between 10 (smallest files) and 100 (highest fidelity). The default value of 82 matches a balanced preset used by many image optimisation tools.
