This plugin stops loading of fonts from Google Fonts used by WordPress core, Gutenberg plugin, bundled themes (Twenty Twelve, Twenty Thirteen, Twenty Fourteen, Twenty Fifteen, Twenty Sixteen, Twenty Seventeen), and most other themes. If theme or plugin (whose name is not listed here) uses fonts from Google Fonts, those fonts still might be loaded if that theme or plugin loads fonts from Google in a way that is incompatible with this plugin.

Reasons for not using Google Fonts might be privacy and security, local development or production, blocking of Google’s servers, characters not supported by font, performance.

Disable Google Fonts is a very lightweight, it has no settings, just activate it and it works immediately.

  1. Upload disable-google-fonts folder to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory
  2. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress

I tested this with WordPress 5.2.2 and the theme "Twenty Thirteen" and it works perfectly. Before the plugin was activated: 2 third party requests according to Webbkoll tester. After the plugin was activated: 0 third party requests. Thank you for this great plugin.

Good plugin to get rid of the privacy hole that is Google Fonts. I still can't understand why it was let in the WordPress Core ...I should not need a plugin for that -_-

No effect!

After activation Firefox still showed a cookie coming up. Maybe it doesn't work with child themes of 20-17.

So I was demonstrating my kiosk appliance with my access point appliance + LEMP stack. I installed WordPress, tested it was very fast. Like an idiot I forgot that in my flat all devices have internet access, so the fetching of Google Font by twenty-seventeen was holding up the entire page-load & render. Using your plugin takes that problem off my hands without changing theme or writing my own plugin, so 5*. I just wish you used currying instead of having so many functions that are 99% the same.

I need to use a local copy of WP with no internet access. This plugin stops WP from trying to download fonts from google and then popping up error messages, which makes things so much easier to use.
