Disable All WordPress Updates

by wpseek

Version: 1.8.0

Download
Description

This plugin completely disables the theme, plugin and core update checking system in WordPress. The plugin prevents WordPress from
checking for updates including cronjobs, and prevents any notifications from being displayed.

It’s very important that you keep your WordPress theme, core and plugins up to date! If you don’t, your blog or website could
be susceptible to security vulnerabilities or performance issues.

If you use this plugin, make sure you keep yourself up to date with new releases of your active WordPress version, plugins
and themes and update them as new versions are released (simply by deactivating this plugin for a short time).

Must have for Performance

By welaunchio on March 8, 2025

I normally never give ratings, but after 24 hours of debugging and finding out that another plugins update API service is causing my slow down, I am super happy that this plugin exists!

Thanks 1 Million times! This one is a requirement for good page speed.

P.S. Dont forget to disable it once a month to to updates 🙂

Really speeds up the dashboard

My developer recommended installing this to help with dashboard speed since we use some 3rd party plugins. It has really helped, thanks!

An awesome plugin that I've used for years!

By pinkish1 on December 13, 2024

First of all, I'm sorry it took so long to give a review for this wonderful plugin. I've used it for years, it's always worked perfectly and still does.

But if the author sees this message, I have a suggestion: please update the plugin from time to time - it doesn't have to be a major update, just a minor version change. I'm saying this because I noticed that, over the years, your plugin went lower in the priority list when installing it from within WP. A few years ago, I could search for "disable updates" and your plugin would be in the first row of results. Now, I search for its exact name, "disable all wordpress updates", and your plugin is the 15-20th result. I think this happens because WP sees that it's not been updated - although it works perfectly with the latest version of WP.

A saviour when your host is blocked by wordpress.org...

By jonjennings on September 26, 2024

As someone caught in the middle of the fireworks between WPEngine and Automattic right now, thank you thank you thank you.

This plugin prevents the 2 minute wait on every backend page load whilst the site tries and fails to talk to the plugin/theme/core servers for an update check.

Great plugin

Great plugin

on my mu-plugin-list

By hardyzbest on April 9, 2024

I can confirm that this plugin not only deactivates most notifiaction banners and disables the communication with wordpress but also blocks the communication with the wordpress-update-checker and THIS is a huge plus! Without this regular checking all pages I installed the plugin run way faster, especially when I have Woocommerce active.

Simple and efficient

By cvladan on June 15, 2023

It's amazing how much faster the admin is with this plugin. It would be nice if the indicator in the admin-bar could be turned off, even through a hook, but whatever - it's good enough for me like this.

Very site should use this with a separate MainWP instance for updates 🥰

By Marcus Quinn (surferking) on June 15, 2023

Thank you for your service to speed and sanity Oliver! 🙏

This instantly solve a large amount of unnecessary Admin speed issues. ⚡️

  1. Just try it for a few minutes, and compare your Admin speed before and after activating!
  2. Set yourself up a separate WordPress instance with the free MainWP plugin, and use that for managing all your site updates automatically, manually, or a mix from there instead.

I've been working with WordPress for about 15 years. This is the way. 💪
