Description

From 2 August 2026, EU AI Act Article 50 requires websites that use AI chatbots or AI assistants to clearly inform visitors they are interacting with AI — before the first interaction.

Disclo makes this requirement simple:

  • One badge, one setting. Paste your Site ID, choose your language, done. No code editing required.
  • Hosted and auto-updating. The badge script lives on Disclo’s servers. When official Article 50 guidelines update, your badge updates automatically — no plugin update needed.
  • Evidence log. Every time the badge fires on a visitor’s screen, Disclo logs a timestamped disclosure event on your account. Export as PDF or CSV for regulators with one click.
  • 6 EU languages. English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish, and Italian — each rendering the disclosure in the correct legal language for your visitors.
  • Privacy-by-design. The badge script does not place cookies, does not track individual users, and does not process personal data. It logs the event that the badge was shown, not who saw it.

Fines for Article 50 violations may reach 3% of global annual turnover under Article 99 of the EU AI Act.

Is this plugin for me?

If your WordPress site uses any of the following, you may be required to show an AI disclosure under Article 50:

  • A live chat plugin with AI features (Tidio, Tawk.to AI, Chaport, Smartsupp, WPBot, or similar)
  • Any AI assistant or chatbot that responds to visitors in real time
  • WooCommerce AI tools with a conversational interface

What this plugin does NOT do

  • It does not include the Compliance Kit templates (first-interaction disclosure text, chat label copy, voice agent script, AI transparency page). Those are available separately at disclo.eu.
  • It does not replace legal advice. Disclo is a documentation and tooling product based on official EU guidelines — consult a qualified EU technology lawyer for your specific situation.

Requires a Disclo account

The badge and evidence log require a Disclo Pro subscription (€19/month or €149/year per site). Get started at disclo.eu.

  1. Upload the disclo-ai-disclosure folder to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory, or install via Plugins > Add New and search for “Disclo AI Disclosure.”
  2. Activate the plugin through the Plugins menu in WordPress.
  3. Go to Settings > Disclo AI Disclosure.
  4. Enter your Site ID (your domain as registered in your Disclo dashboard).
  5. Choose your preferred language and badge style.
  6. Click Save Settings.

The AI disclosure badge will appear on your site within 60 seconds. Evidence logging begins immediately.

What is EU AI Act Article 50?

Article 50 of the EU AI Act requires deployers of AI systems that interact with people (chatbots, AI assistants, voice agents) to clearly inform those people they are talking to AI. This must happen at or before the first interaction. The deadline is 2 August 2026.

Do I need a Disclo account to use this plugin?

Yes. The badge and evidence log are hosted services that require a Disclo Pro subscription. You can start with the free Scope Check to find out whether Article 50 applies to your site.

Will this plugin slow down my site?

No. The badge script is loaded with the defer attribute, so it never blocks page rendering. It is a single lightweight external script.

Does this plugin place cookies or track visitors?

No. The badge script does not place cookies and does not collect personal data about individual visitors. It logs the event that the disclosure was shown — not who saw it — making it compliant with GDPR and the EU’s privacy-by-design principle.

What languages are supported?

English, Dutch (Nederlands), German (Deutsch), French (Français), Spanish (Español), and Italian (Italiano). The badge displays the disclosure in whichever language you select in the settings.

The badge is active but not showing on my site. What do I check?

  1. Make sure your theme calls wp_footer() before the closing </body> tag. If your theme doesn’t call wp_footer(), the script cannot be injected.
  2. Check that you are not logged in as an administrator — the badge is hidden for admin users by default to avoid inflating your evidence log counts during maintenance.
  3. Confirm your Site ID matches your domain exactly as entered in your Disclo dashboard.

My theme uses a page builder — will this still work?

Yes. The badge is injected at the wp_footer hook (priority 99), which runs regardless of the page builder used, as long as the theme includes wp_footer().
