Description

DreamWidget hosts and serves widgets you design in a dashboard at dreamwidget.com and place on any site with one line: a Logo Showcase (scrolling rows, arches, grids, carousels of client and partner logos), a Video Showcase (tabs of YouTube playlists and channels, Vimeo showcases, Twitch channels and TikTok videos, each playing in its own player over your page), a Showreel (your photos and videos as a moving reel: a ribbon on a curved wall, a crumpling row, a 3D band and more) and a Popup.

This plugin adds a DreamWidget block and a [dreamwidget] shortcode that print the same embed the dashboard hands out. Nothing runs on your server: the widget loads from DreamWidget’s CDN, sized to its content, and every change you publish in the dashboard appears on your site without touching the page again.

Shortcode

[dreamwidget id=”YOUR_WIDGET_ID” type=”logos”]
[dreamwidget id=”YOUR_WIDGET_ID” type=”video”]
[dreamwidget id=”YOUR_WIDGET_ID” type=”showreel”]
[dreamwidget id=”YOUR_WIDGET_ID” type=”popup”]

The widget id is the part after w= in the embed code on your dashboard.

External services

This plugin embeds widgets that are hosted by DreamWidget (https://dreamwidget.com), a third-party service run by the plugin’s authors. It is needed to show the widget at all: the plugin itself only prints an iframe.

  • When a page with a DreamWidget block or shortcode is viewed, the visitor’s browser loads the widget from cdn.dreamwidget.com. Like any web request, this sends the visitor’s IP address and browser details to that server. The widget id is part of the address.
  • When the widget is shown, a logo is clicked or a video is played, the widget reports that event to uploads.dreamwidget.com with the widget id only, so the widget’s owner can see counts. Nothing about the visitor is stored and no cookie is set.
  • A Video Showcase plays videos from the platform they come from (YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch or TikTok) only when a visitor presses play; those services then receive what they receive from any embedded player.

Source code

The plugin’s only script, assets/frame.js, ships as readable, commented source. It is not minified or compiled and has no build step: edit it directly. The PHP and block files are likewise plain source.

  1. In Plugins, Add New, search for DreamWidget and install it (or upload the plugin folder to /wp-content/plugins/).
  2. Activate it.
  3. Add the DreamWidget block to a page, or use the shortcode, with the widget id from your dashboard.
Do I need an account?

Yes, a free one at dreamwidget.com. The plugin only shows widgets you have made there.

Does the widget show a credit?

On DreamWidget’s free plan the widget itself shows a small “Powered by DreamWidget” line, which is part of the free service and is shown on your site only if you place a widget made on that plan. The plugin adds nothing of its own to your pages. Paid plans turn the line off, and it can be switched off in the widget editor on any paid plan.

Does it slow my site down?

The widget is an iframe from a CDN: about 4KB of page and 20KB of script, cached at the edge, loaded lazily. Nothing is added to your theme.

1.0.1

  • The Showreel: the block offers it and the shortcode takes type=”showreel”.
  • The block and the readme name the Popup, which the shortcode already took.

1.0.0

  • First release: block and shortcode for the Logo Showcase and the Video Showcase.
