IndexNow Plugin
IndexNow Plugin
Description
IndexNow Plugin for WordPress enables automated submission of URLs from WordPress sites to the multiple search engines without the need to register and verify your site with them. Once installed, the plugin will automatically generate and host the API key on your site. It detects page creation/update/ deletion in WordPress and automatically submits the URLs in the background. This ensures that search engines will always have the latest updates about your site. This plugin submits URLs to a generic end point https://api.indexnow.org/indexnow and these URLs are shared to all participating search engines.
The plugin automatically respects noindex directives to prevent submission of URLs that should not be indexed. It checks the actual rendered HTML for <meta name="robots" content="noindex"> tags. It also checks X-Robots-Tag HTTP headers and WordPress site-wide search engine visibility settings.
Some other handy features included in the plugin:
- Toggle the automatic submission feature.
- Exclude specific URL paths from auto-submission using wildcard patterns.
- Manually submit a URL to IndexNow.
- View list of recent URL submissions from the plugin.
- Retry any failed submissions from the recent submissions list.
- Download recent URL submissions for analysis.
- Status on recent successful and failed submissions.
- View IndexNow insights and more in Bing Webmaster tools.
You can browse the code at the GitHub repository.
This plugin was developed with love and coffee by the Bing Webmaster team.
Installation
You just need to install the plugin and set up automatic submission of new pages in your WordPress site. It’s that simple!
- Log in to WordPress admin panel for your WordPress site. Click on ‘Plugins > Add New’.
- Search for ‘IndexNow Plugin’ and install.
- Once installed, click on ‘Activate’ to enable plugin.
- Go to IndexNow admin page and click ‘Let’s Get Started!’.
Faq
To generate a new API key, please de-activate and re-activate the plugin. It will automatically generate a new key and host on your site. API key is unique for a website and hence should not be changed too frequently as best practices.
You can go to ‘Plugins’ page from your WordPress sidebar and click on Deactivate under IndexNow plugin. This will remove the API key integration as well as any locally stored data about submitted URLs. Reactivating the plugin will present you with a clean slate.
We are providing a limited number of URLs submitted on the WordPress dashboard (20 successful and 20 failed). Please reach out to individual search engines for more details.
Indexing of URLs is specific and dependent on each search engine’s rules, please reach out to individual search engine for debugging and resolution.

I see a large percentage of reviews that say the plugin is crap or doesn't work... I am not affiliated with anything Bing and somewhat loathe MS as a rule but, this plugin does everything it says it does, and I love the efficiency of how it auto-post post. Wish GSC was this easy to push URLs.
I don't think it works... 0 Submissions?
By Owen (owencerijones) on March 31, 2026
I submitted dozens of pages before checking the stats, which declared: 0 Submissions, 0 Failures.
Doesn't make sense to me - it must be bust!
Works well, but has a small loading issue
By guguan123 on February 20, 2026
It works as expected, but I noticed that main.6b93cffc.js is constantly reloading. This is slowing down the WordPress dashboard significantly. It would be great if this could be optimized!
It works

No support, plugin abandoned, plugin submits URLs with noindex directives
By Reed Sutton (reedus33) on August 11, 2025
This plugin has no support, it is completely derelict. The plugin submits all URLs to be immediately indexed even if they have the noindex directive. I have tried contacting the github devs, plugin support, bing webmaster support. No response. The plugin is abandoned.
Good hassle free plugin

It just works. Low maintenance, can use more features which I am assuming are coming in future versions.
