Description

Legba Donate gives your organization a donation form that looks like your site, takes gifts by card, PayPal, cheque or transfer, thanks the donor and keeps a clean record of every gift. No commission is taken by the plugin, and there is no limit on campaigns, gifts or donors.

Campaigns

  • As many campaigns as you want. Each one has its own page, text and image, and can be placed anywhere with a shortcode or the “Donation form” block.
  • Suggested amounts, each with a short line that says what it makes possible (“Feeds a family for a week”).
  • An amount selected at first, and a free amount with a minimum and a maximum.
  • A goal with a progress bar, the amount raised, the number of gifts and the days left: show the ones you want.
  • An end date, and automatic closing when the goal is reached, with your own closing message.

Payments

  • Stripe: cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay on the secure page of Stripe. No card number touches your site.
  • PayPal.
  • Offline gifts: the donor promises a gift by cheque, Interac or bank transfer and receives your instructions; you mark the gift as received.
  • Test mode with separate keys: try everything without moving real money.
  • Donors can add the processing fees to their gift.

The form

  • First name, last name and email, plus phone, postal address and company: each one hidden, optional or required.
  • Anonymous gifts, a message box, and gifts in honour or in memory of someone.
  • A consent checkbox with your own text.
  • Your color, your rounded corners, your button text.
  • Works without JavaScript, on phones, with a keyboard and with screen readers.
  • Protection against robots: hidden trap field, time check and limit per visitor.

After the gift

  • A thank-you screen with the summary, or the page of your choice.
  • A thank-you email to the donor, with your own subject and text.
  • An email to your team for each gift.
  • A donor wall, a progress bar alone and a list of your open campaigns, as shortcodes.

Managing gifts

  • List of gifts with filters by status, campaign, payment method and dates, and a search.
  • The screen of a gift: status, private notes, thank-you email sent again.
  • Gifts received in cash, by cheque or by transfer are added by hand.
  • List of donors with their total, their number of gifts and their history.
  • CSV export of the gifts.
  • Overview with the totals of the day, the last 30 days, the year and since the start, by campaign, and a widget on the WordPress dashboard.
  • 32 currencies.
  • Personal data: export and erase tools of WordPress, and suggested text for your privacy policy.

English and French (Canada, France) are included.

Shortcodes

  • [legba_donate id="12"] — the donation form of a campaign.
  • [legba_donate_goal id="12"] — the progress bar alone.
  • [legba_donate_wall id="12" number="20"] — the donor wall.
  • [legba_donate_campaigns] — the list of your open campaigns.

Legba Donate Pro

A separate Pro version adds monthly and yearly gifts, official tax receipts in PDF (one per gift or one per year), funds, extra questions, the form in three steps, the form in a window with a floating button, reports, a donor space, the import of past gifts, a webhook and more.

External services

This plugin connects to payment services only when you turn them on in Donations › Settings › Payments.

Stripe — used to take card payments. When a donor chooses to pay by card, the plugin sends to the Stripe API (api.stripe.com) the amount, the currency, the name of the campaign, the email address of the donor and the address of your site to come back to; the donor then types the card details on the page of Stripe (checkout.stripe.com). Stripe also calls your site to confirm payments. Service provided by Stripe, Inc.: terms of service, privacy policy.

PayPal — used to take PayPal payments. When a donor chooses PayPal, the plugin sends to the PayPal API (api-m.paypal.com, or api-m.sandbox.paypal.com in test mode) the amount, the currency, the name of the campaign, the name of your organization and the address of your site to come back to; the donor then pays on the PayPal site. Service provided by PayPal: user agreement, privacy statement.

No data is sent anywhere else, and nothing is sent when these services are off.

  1. Install and activate the plugin.
  2. Go to Donations › Settings › Payments and turn on Stripe, PayPal or offline gifts. Leave the test mode on while you try.
  3. Go to Donations › Campaigns and add your first campaign.
  4. Place the form with the “Donation form” block or the shortcode shown on the campaign, or link to the page of the campaign.
  5. Untick the test mode when you are ready.
Does the plugin take a commission?

No. You only pay the fees of Stripe or PayPal.

Do card numbers pass through my site?

No. Donors type their card on the page of Stripe or PayPal and come back to your site afterwards.

Do I need the Stripe webhook?

It is recommended. Without it, a gift is confirmed when the donor comes back to your site; with it, the gift is confirmed even when the donor closes the window too early. The address to paste in Stripe is shown in the settings.

Can I record a cheque or cash?

Yes: Donations › Add a gift.

What happens to the data when I delete the plugin?

Nothing is deleted unless you tick “Delete campaigns, donors and donations” in Settings › Advanced.

0.1.1

  • Security: every admin action checks its nonce and the user’s capability before reading any field; the donation form checks its nonce first.
  • All names, stored data and assets now use the legbdo prefix.
  • Escaping of campaign images in the campaigns shortcode.

0.1.0

  • First version.
