Requires BuddyPress 5.0 or greater.

This plugin segregates BuddyPress social networks in a multi network WordPress install so that each WP network has a different social network.

All functionality, eg groups, friends, profile fields, activity etc are now independent for each site

  1. Upload the lh-buddypress-multi-network/ folder to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory
  2. Create a bp-custom.php: https://codex.buddypress.org/themes/bp-custom-php/ file and add the line: define( ‘BP_ENABLE_MULTIBLOG’, true );
  3. Network activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
  4. That is it.
Why did you write this plugin?

Because the other two plugins that purport to do this, are not maintained and don´t work properly.

Can you give me some examples of sites running this plugin?

The LocalHero project website and the Melbourne Touch rugby association I founded both run on the same multisite that is powered by this plugin.

What is something does not work?

LH Buddypress Multi Network, and all LocalHero plugins are made to WordPress standards. Therefore they should work with all well coded plugins and themes. However not all plugins and themes are well coded (and this includes many popular ones).

If something does not work properly, firstly deactivate ALL other plugins and switch to one of the themes that come with core, e.g. twentyfirteen, twentysixteen etc.

If the problem persists please leave a post in the support forum: https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/lh-buddypress-multi-network/. I look there regularly and resolve most queries.

Game Changer

This plugin, is (IMHO*) a game changer. Up to now to properly do Multi-Networks with BuddyPress required the use of two plugins WP Multi Networks (or Networks+ once premium but now on github) & bp multi-networks & you also required some lines of wp-config to be commented out. With those plugins you could have clean separate networks each with a separate Network Admin page and separate BuddyPress /bbPess instances and these plugins still work. Now comes this plugin - at first i was asking where are the Networks? (but that was because I was used to a separate Network Admin screen for each Network). But now, five weeks on, I ask is that really necessary when you have a wholly seperate buddypress and bbpress instance on each additional blog that can separately avail of the whole BuddyPress/bbPress eco-system. I actually now believe that this plugin is a game changer - simple to install and simple to undertand. Keeps it simple and also the proliferation of networks is far far easier and then the whole shebang is also easier to maintain and to manage. Having played with Slack for a year I wasn't surprised by their Grand Slam.The Aussies always come back and bring something new to the game. Its looking the same for this Aussie's plugin. I really believe this plugin could be THE real gamechanger for multi-networking. *caveat: not a developer just a copy and paster coder, fan of open-source but not an absolutist. Believe that BuddyPress's best days are ahead.
