Third party resources we use:
- After activating this plugin, it will download a Geolocation database (DBIP-City.mmdb) from DB IP into your uploads directory. The DB-IP database is distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. This database is needed to detect the location of your visitors based on their IP.
- When you enter a URL in the SEO ranking widget, then a request with the entered URL may be sent to Google, Alexa, Bing, and other SEO providers.

One of the more privacy friendly analytics
By Deskdesign (Deskman) on August 20, 2025
Using it for one client as a test and we're both very happy with the clear data presentation and the easy configuration.
A very versatile analytics tool
By olafkoest on August 12, 2025
Even using the free version we get a host of useful information out of Matomo's numbers. And if we need additional insights we can acquire more specific premium services, like heatmaps and keyword perfomance tools.
Excellent GA Alternative

I use Matamo on my personal website and plan to expand usage to my clients. Google Analytics has become almost unusable for most business owners, and the privacy and performance drawbacks make it untenable.
Matomo does most of the job
By edwinobando on June 18, 2025
Matomo helps me eliminate the slow performance of Google Tag and Analytics, while it does most of the job, it also has some issues.
1- The backend is very CPU demanding sometimes. Checking my server resources while using Matomo shows high CPU usage.
2- Matomo registers my activity(webmaster) in the website. I don't want this since it could alter the statistics very badly. It should be easy to exclude my activity, as Im the only user in the world logged in as admin, LOL.(I already set up a filter for this but its silly that this happens by default)
3- Matomo can detect how much time one person has spent on the site. You can check that in the Visitors log and the Real Time tabs. But if you go to the Pages tab, the average time is always way lower. Even zero. This is because Matomo would set the time to 0:00 if the person closes the tab or the window without going somewhere else(bounce rate). To resolve this, I installed a pop-up that forces the visitor to click on a button to close it, but Matomo won't consider that click an "action".
4- Matomo Events are confusing to set up. Matomo should have events like scrolling, zooming, clicking, and others done by default. But instead of that, it allows us to set up manually in the most unfriendly config panel named TAG MANAGER.
5- Goals: The goal manager is weird when it comes to "timed goals". I set up a goal where if the visitor stays more than 2 minutes on the site, it should be marked as "2-minute Goal". This goal is shown only if the visitor goes to another website. Bouncing visitors are ignored by goals.
Is good, BUT
By madmax98 on June 6, 2025
Matomo also devours a lot of unnecessary performance with every optimization and the fact that you don't offer an export function for data just like that borders on extreme wickedness
Amazing alternative for Google Analytics

It's superb at what it does!
The best of the lot
By jlahusen on January 18, 2025
Aside from doing what it says on the tin, this plugin offers free useful features that the competition lock behind paywalls.
What is more, it is the only one I have tested that will actually clean up after itself once removed. Two other similar popular plugins I have tested will leave a lot of database junk behind.
Great tool and support
By koobm on November 16, 2024
Matomo is industry standard. On par with Google Analytics, but without the GDPR implications. The WordPress plugin is just perfect for small to mid traffic sites where a separate Matomo instance would seem like overkill. Users love the reports, admin (me) loves product quality, performance and responsive support. True 5 star experience.
