Description

PCRecruiter Extensions provides two primary integration methods. The setup is typically done with the direct involvement of a PCR consultant; it is advised that you contact support@mainsequence.net before proceeding.

1. Full WordPress Job Sync
Sync active jobs from PCRecruiter into WordPress as native custom post types (job).
Includes keyword and distance search, Google-ready job data (JobPosting), social sharing, automatic handling of filled jobs, instant search and filtering with a sidebar, and full control over styling using native WordPress tools.

Additional Features:
* Optional interactive job map (no API key required) — pins follow the visitor’s search filters
* Sidebar with checkbox filters that let visitors narrow the results
* Instant search, filtering, sorting, and paging (no page reloads)
* Collapsible filter sections, type-to-filter, result-count badges, and removable filter “pills”
* Sidebar on the left or right, depending on your template
* Works with the WordPress Site Editor (block bindings, WordPress 6.5+)
* Search-engine-friendly URLs and optional custom job titles
* Built-in caching for faster pages
* Internal-only job boards for private listings
* Optional removal of inline styles so jobs match your site’s design
* Accessible pagination
* Works with older PCRecruiter setups

2. Simple iFrame Embed
Embed the hosted PCRecruiter job board using a simple shortcode. Ideal for quick and simple installs or sites that prefer PCR-rendered pages, or sites where SEO and link friendliness are of less importance.

Also: PCRecruiter job XML/JSON feed downloading for integrations or imports.

Quick Start

Iframe Job Board:

No plugin settings are required for iframe installations! Just insert the shortcode into your jobs page:

[PCRecruiter link=”yourdatabase.yourprofile”]

Contact your support representative for your shortcode.

Full WordPress Job Sync:
1. Create a page and add:
[PCRecruiter link=”jobmanager”]
2. Go to Settings PCRecruiter Extensions Job Board Sync.
3. Generate a Sync Token and enter it into the PCR “WordPress Sync Settings” panel.

Features

  • Secure, token-based syncing of your live jobs
  • Jobs stored as normal WordPress posts
  • Keyword and distance (radius) search
  • A [pcr_search_form] shortcode that puts a search box on any page (homepage, landing page) and opens the results on your job board
  • Optional interactive job map with clustered pins that follow the visitor’s search filters (OpenStreetMap — no API key or billing account needed)
  • Instant search and filtering, with a sidebar, removable filter “pills,” and collapsible sections
  • Layout controlled from your PCR search template (sidebar position, collapsible sections, type-to-filter, count badges, and list limits)
  • Google-ready job listings (JobPosting structured data)
  • Internal-only job boards for private listings
  • Social sharing buttons
  • Accessible pagination
  • Choose to delete filled jobs or keep them visible with a “Filled” badge

Example Shortcodes

Iframe Job Board:
[PCRecruiter link=”my%20data.mycompany”]

Full Sync Job Board:
[PCRecruiter link=”jobmanager”]

Optional filtering:
[PCRecruiter link=”jobmanager” jobcategory=”Engineering”]

Internal Job Board:
[PCRecruiter link=”internaljobmanager”]

Search box on another page (homepage, landing page) that sends visitors to your job board:
[pcr_search_form]
[pcr_search_form fields=”Radius”]
[pcr_search_form fields=”Keyword,Radius” radius=”500″ button=”Find Jobs”]

The fields attribute takes your PCRecruiter search fields, in the order you want them.
Use plain names (Radius, Keyword, City_State, Job_Type, Salary), friendly ones
(location, keyword, jobtype, pay), or a custom field as Details.Profession. Labels and
dropdown choices come from your job board configuration, so they match. Results always
open on your configured Job Board Page; add action=”/jobs” to send them elsewhere.
Use one instance per page, and not on the job board page itself — the job board’s own
search form already includes these fields, and two copies conflict.

Job board with the map forced on (or off) regardless of the global setting:

[PCRecruiter link=”jobmanager” map=”off”]

External Services

This plugin connects to PCRecruiter (Main Sequence Technology); when the Job Map is enabled, to OpenStreetMap; and when AI Job Summaries is enabled, to the AI provider you connected in WordPress. Nothing is sent anywhere else.

PCRecruiter job board and sync — www2.pcrecruiter.net, host.pcrecruiter.net. The core integration: jobs are pushed from your PCRecruiter database to your site, apply/iframe pages, styling and tracking scripts load from PCRecruiter, and details a visitor submits when applying go to your PCRecruiter database. Terms and privacy: https://www.mainsequence.net/privacy-policy/

PCRecruiter geolocation lookup — maps.pcrecruiter.net. Two kinds of request. Your server sends a job’s city/state/zip (no personal data) to find its coordinates for the Job Map, once per location. Separately, when a visitor types in the distance/radius location box — on the job board, or on any page carrying the [pcr_search_form] shortcode — their browser sends what they typed directly to this service to suggest locations, which (as with any web request) also transmits their IP address. Nothing else about the visitor is sent. Terms and privacy: https://www.mainsequence.net/privacy-policy/

OpenStreetMap tiles — tile.openstreetmap.org. Only when the Job Map is enabled: visitors’ browsers load map images from the OpenStreetMap Foundation’s public tile server, sending their IP address and the map area viewed, as any image request does. Terms: https://operations.osmfoundation.org/policies/tiles/ — Privacy: https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy. Busy sites should mind OSM’s fair-use policy; the pcrecruiter_map_tile_url filter switches to another tile provider.

Your AI provider — chosen by you in Settings Connectors (for example Anthropic, OpenAI or Google). Only when AI Job Summaries is enabled: your server sends each job’s title, city/state and description text (no applicant or visitor data) to that provider to write the job’s excerpt and meta description, once per change to the job. The plugin uses WordPress’s built-in AI client and never sees or stores your API key; usage is billed to your account with the provider, under its terms and privacy policy.

The map is drawn by Leaflet (BSD-2-Clause) with Leaflet.markercluster (MIT), both bundled with the plugin — no CDN calls.

  1. Upload the plugin ZIP via Plugins Add New Upload Plugin, or install from WordPress.org
  2. Activate the plugin.
Which method should I use: sync or iframe?

Use full sync for SEO-friendly, WordPress-native jobs, structured data, and customization. This method requires advanced skills and should be done with the help of an experienced WordPress developer and/or PCRecruiter support.
Use the simple iframe method for quick installation and no-code rendering.

Do I need to edit any settings when using the iframe job board mode?

No. The iframe mode works with only the shortcode. This method doesn’t interact with the WordPress database or software.

Can I run multiple full-sync job boards on different pages?

Yes. Use the jobcategory parameter to filter the listings by “job_category” Position custom field.

Can I combine multiple databases into a single job board?

Yes, when using the full-sync multiple databases can be fed to the same WordPress site. With the simple iframe method, the search/display can only show one database’s jobs at a time.

How are expired jobs handled?

Typically, jobs that are no longer open are deleted automatically. You may choose to keep expired jobs visible with the full-sync mode – these will display a “Filled” badge and will have no apply button.

Can I customize how job titles display in browser tabs?

Yes, with the full-sync you may configure this in Settings PCRecruiter Extensions Job Title Format.

Does the plugin work with Google Jobs?

Yes. The plugin supports the required Schema for Google’s jobs results. It will suppress Yoast Schema automatically if this feature is configured.

My page builder’s dynamic fields are blank when I point them at job data. Why?

Job data is stored under field names like [[position.city]], and a few page builders cannot read a field name that contains brackets or dots — they come up empty with no error. BeTheme’s BeBuilder is affected; Divi is not. Enable Settings PCRecruiter Extensions Job Board Sync “Builder-Friendly Field Names” and each job field gets a second copy under a plain name, so [[position.city]] also becomes pcr_position_city. Your original field names are left untouched, so nothing that already works will break. Leave this off if your builder already shows job data.

How does the job map work?

Enable Settings PCRecruiter Extensions Job Board Sync “Job Map” and a map appears above your job board results. Pins match the visitor’s current search and filters and link to the job page; jobs at the same location are grouped. Remote/WFH jobs and any job without a location stay off the map. No Google account or API key is needed — it uses OpenStreetMap. Override per page with [PCRecruiter link=”jobmanager” map=”on”] (or map=”off”).

How do AI Job Summaries work?

On WordPress 7.0 or later, connect an AI provider (Anthropic, Google or OpenAI) under Settings Connectors, then enable Settings PCRecruiter Extensions Job Board Sync “AI Job Summaries”. Each job gets a two-to-three sentence excerpt and a search meta description, written in the background after each sync; existing jobs are filled in shortly after you turn it on. If the AI plugin’s connector approval is active, approve PCRecruiter Extensions under Tools AI Connector Approval first. To show the excerpt in your job board results, add

[[position.excerpt]]

to your results template. You can edit any job’s excerpt by hand and it will be kept.

2.3.0 – 2026-10-20

  • Added: AI Job Summaries setting, off by default (Settings PCRecruiter Extensions Job Board Sync Advanced). Using the AI provider connected to WordPress (Settings Connectors, WordPress 7.0 or later; the stock Anthropic, Google and OpenAI connectors all work), each job gets a short excerpt and a search meta description. Summaries are written in the background after each sync and are only regenerated when a job’s description changes. The job’s edit screen shows which provider and model wrote them.
  • Added: jobs have an Excerpt field. An excerpt you write or edit by hand is never overwritten by AI summaries.
  • Added: [[position.excerpt]] results-template token, showing the job’s excerpt, whoever wrote it. Jobs without one show nothing; wrap the token as

[[position.excerpt]]

and the empty wrapper is hidden too.
* Added: a job’s Web Notes from PCRecruiter become its excerpt, replacing an AI-written or hand-edited one. PCRecruiter only sends Web Notes when a job board template uses the [[Position.Web_Notes]] field. If a job’s Web Notes are later cleared, its excerpt goes back to the AI-written one, or to none.
* Changed: when AI summaries are on, the meta description and social-share description use the AI-written description instead of the first 155 characters of the job description. A Summary set in PCRecruiter still takes priority.
* Added: WP-CLI command wp pcr summarize, to write summaries for all jobs (backfill) or regenerate specific ones.
* Added: pcrecruiter_ai_summary_instruction filter, for developers to change the instructions given to the AI, and pcrecruiter_ai_summary_models filter, to prefer specific models when more than one provider is connected.
* Fixed: a sync could add a second copy of a job it had already published, at an address ending in “-2”. It happened on sites with a persistent object cache, and to any job sitting in draft, pending, private or the trash. The check for an existing job now reads the database directly and recognises every status, so a job PCRecruiter re-sends is updated or restored rather than copied.
* Changed: a sync push that arrives without a job id is refused and the reason recorded in the sync log, instead of being saved as a job no later sync can recognise.
* Changed: jobs with a blank description now sync from PCRecruiter, including on sites where a theme or plugin rejects posts with no body text. A job only needs a title, for boards that just want the title and Apply button.
* Changed: when WordPress refuses to save a synced job, the reason is now returned to PCRecruiter and recorded in the sync log instead of a bare “Error 500 creating job.”
* Fixed: removing a whole database’s jobs could stop mid-run on a large board, leaving it half emptied with PCRecruiter reporting only a timeout. The removal now works in batches within the time available and keeps what it has removed. PCRecruiter’s next sync carries on from there until the board is empty.
* Fixed: a request to remove a database’s jobs when it had none was reported to PCRecruiter as a failure. It is now reported as success.
* Fixed: a search with no results showed the configured “no-jobs” message as encoded text. Its Submit Resume field is now a link.
* Fixed: the share bar’s Bluesky button posted the job title with no link to the job. It now posts both.
* Changed: the share bar’s Copy Link button no longer interrupts with a pop-up, and falls back to opening the job where a browser refuses clipboard access (which includes any site not served over HTTPS).
* Changed: the share bar reads its icons from disk once per page instead of once per job listed, and a missing icon file no longer leaves a blank button or writes a PHP warning.
* Changed: the settings-page warning about pages still using the iframe-only job board no longer counts pages whose only [PCRecruiter] embeds are Submit Resume (action=detail&apply=y) or client portal (employer.aspx) links. Full Sync doesn’t affect those.
* Changed: a field mapped to Job Location Type that contains “Remote” is published as TELECOMMUTE in Schema, which is the value Google accepts.
* Fixed: Validate Schema on the Job Schema settings screen could time out without answering on boards with thousands of jobs. It now reads them in batches, cutting the work to a fraction of the database queries.

2.2.7 – 2026-09-24

  • Added: Site Health check reporting whether AI search crawlers (GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended, Applebot-Extended) are blocked from reading your job postings.
  • Added: AI Search Crawlers setting, off by default, adding explicit robots.txt Allow rules for those agents.
  • Added: job board pages publish an ItemList of their postings, so AI search agents can enumerate your jobs instead of scraping the page. Internal-only boards and postings are excluded.
  • Added: every job is also available as clean Markdown at its own URL with ?format=md, linked from the job page, for AI agents that parse text better than page-builder markup.
  • Added: job schema mapping covers Skills, Qualifications, Experience Requirements, Education Requirements, Job Benefits, Work Hours, Job Start Date, Occupational Category, Total Job Openings, Incentive Compensation and Employment Unit.
  • Added: job schema publishes the posting’s own URL, so a listing can be traced back to the job page.
  • Added: Site Health check for the database index behind job board keyword search, showing the database’s reason when the index could not be created.
  • Fixed: jobs with no Country in PCRecruiter no longer lose their Google job schema entirely. The country is taken from the job’s State where the board is US/Canada only (OH to US, Ontario to CA), and a new Default Country setting covers the rest.
  • Fixed: CSS and script code in a job description no longer appears as visible text on the job page.
  • Fixed: a job search with no results shows the “no jobs found” message set in PCRecruiter instead of a fixed “No jobs found.”
  • Fixed: reactivating the plugin retries creating the keyword search index if an earlier attempt failed.

2.2.6 – 2026-09-11

  • Changed: job source tracking now fills PCRecruiter’s fields as named: Source/Referrer from utm_source or src, Referrer Source from srcref or utm_medium, and Referrer Domain from the referring site when the visitor came from somewhere else.
  • Fixed: returning from the PCRecruiter job board, or moving between www. and the bare domain, is no longer recorded as the applicant’s source.
  • Fixed: an applicant who arrived directly, with no campaign link or outside referrer, is no longer recorded as having been sourced from your own website.

2.2.5 – 2026-09-11

  • Added: Posted Date Source setting, to order and display jobs by a custom date field instead of PCRecruiter’s Date Posted.
  • Changed: Settings page is split into Job Board Sync and RSS Feed tabs and given headings for clarity
  • Added: Connection status under the sync token (database, last push, jobs synced), a Copy Key button, and setup steps.
  • Changed: Primary Job Board Page offers a page picker that fills in the URL.
  • Changed: RSS Feed fields have helper text and readable update frequencies; the WP-Cron status now shows on that tab only.
  • Added: Settings PCRecruiter Extensions warns when the site still has iframe job board pages, so a switch to Full Sync on the same database is not made by accident.
  • Changed: Jobs can no longer be added by hand in WordPress; jobs come from PCRecruiter.

2.2.4 – 2026-09-09

  • Added: read-only “PCRecruiter Job Fields” box on the job edit screen, so synced fields stay visible even when ACF hides the native Custom Fields box.
  • Fixed: job schema salary validated, omitting zero-values, half-finished ranges, etc.
  • Changed: job schema salary pay period defaults to YEAR and is editable in mapping
  • Fixed: job schema requires a country rather than a city and state, matching Google’s rules.
  • Fixed: job schema employment type is validated against Google’s list
  • Fixed: job schema fixes for timezone and remote job locations
  • Changed: job schema from plugin is the only honored schema now – legacy schema in PCR settings is ignored
  • Changed: job schema country published as a two-letter code, identifier as a PropertyValue
  • Added: Enable Google Analytics setting replaces the per-shortcode analytics parameter

2.2.3 – 2026-08-27

  • Fixed: job source tracking lost the original campaign when a visitor browsed the site before applying.
  • Fixed: the site’s own domain could be recorded as the source of an application.
  • Fixed: sitemap generation could lock up the database during large job syncs.

2.2.2 – 2026-08-18

  • Fixed: jobs deleted outright in PCRecruiter are now removed from WordPress.
  • Fixed: geocoding failed for jobs with both a postal code and a country, keeping them off the Job Map and out of distance search.
  • Changed: location suggestions hide the country on single-country boards.

2.2.1 – 2026-08-18

  • Added: [pcr_search_form] shortcode for placing a job search box on any page.
  • Fixed: radius location search accepts full state names and non-US locations.

2.2.0 – 2026-08-05

  • Added: optional “Job Map” above job board results (OpenStreetMap, no API key required).
  • Added: jobs without coordinates are geocoded from city/state/zip for the map and distance search.
  • Added: optional “Builder-Friendly Field Names” setting for page builders that cannot read bracketed field names.
  • Changed: job types ending in “Regular” drop that word everywhere.
  • Fixed: job type displayed differently on the job page than in the results list.
  • Fixed: embedded images in job descriptions broke the sync; they are now saved to the Media Library.
  • Fixed: City/State dropdown search returned no results.
  • Fixed: City/State filter listed locations from other categories on category-specific boards.
  • Fixed: keyword searches containing “limit”, “order by”, or “offset” showed a wrong job count.
  • Fixed: internal-only job boards showed “410 Access Denied”.
  • Security: internal-only jobs are no longer retrievable from outside search requests.

2.1.10 – 2026-07-09

  • Added: an optional “Temporary API Logging” setting (Settings PCRecruiter Extensions Job Board Sync). When enabled, it records incoming sync requests from PCRecruiter to a protected log file for troubleshooting, with an admin-only link to view the log. Logging turns itself off automatically after 24 hours and is size-capped.

2.1.9 – 2026-06-22

  • Fixed: custom fields now appear in the JSON job feed (pcrjobfeed.json). They were already included in the XML feed but were being dropped from the JSON version.
  • Fixed: the Standard Fields and Custom Fields settings no longer strip spaces or special characters from the values you enter, so field names that contain spaces (e.g. “Job Level”) are sent to the feed correctly.

2.1.8 – 2026-06-09

  • Remote (and similar) jobs entered in the City field with no State — e.g. City “Remote” — now appear under the matching option in the State/location filter (Remote, WFH, Nationwide, Hybrid, Anywhere). Previously only a value in the State field was recognized.
  • Those City-based Remote/WFH jobs are now also flagged as remote for Google job listings, matching how State-based remote jobs already worked.

2.1.7 – 2026-06-09

  • Pay ranges look cleaner in job listings — both ends of a range are now formatted the same way (e.g. “$180,000 – $200,000”).
  • Jobs with no pay no longer show “$0” in listings: a “$0 – $0” range is hidden, and a range that lists only one figure (e.g. “$70,000 – $0”) just shows that figure.
  • The salary filter is now labeled “Pay Range” and searches as soon as you pick a range — no extra click.
  • The Pay Range filter now groups each job by its starting pay, so a wide range like “$180,000 – $200,000” appears in its starting band instead of several bands at once.
  • Sorting by pay now orders jobs by amount. (It used to sort by the digits, so “$90,000” could land above “$180,000”.) “Low to High” and “High to Low” now work as expected.
  • Job application pages keep your page design — clicking “Apply” swaps just the job area for the application form, leaving any header or intro above it in place.
  • Security: tightened the location and distance search so it only accepts valid numbers.
  • Now requires WordPress 6.5 or newer.

2.1.6 – 2026-05-29

  • Fixed RSS feed downloads failing on hosts running OpenSSL 3.x.
  • Fixed an empty last page and duplicate rows in paginated job results.
  • Added Rank Math support: job pages now use the plugin’s JobPosting schema and job description instead of Rank Math’s defaults, matching the existing Yoast and AIOSEO behavior.
  • SEO meta-description overrides (Yoast, AIOSEO, Rank Math) now apply automatically and no longer require the “Force Titles” option, which now controls the page title only.

2.1.5 – 2026-05-28

  • Added a “State Display Format” setting (Settings PCR Extensions) to show the state or province as the stored value, the full name, or the 2-letter code. It applies everywhere the state appears — listings, job pages, SEO titles, and the state filter — while keeping searches working. Covers US states, DC, territories, and Canadian provinces.
  • Job types now show friendlier labels on listings and job pages (e.g. “Full-Time Regular” becomes “Full-Time”).
  • When a job’s city and state appear together, a comma is added automatically (e.g. “Cleveland, OH”).
  • Job sync no longer saves leftover template placeholders as job data.
  • Google job data now ignores non-state values like “Anywhere” or “Hybrid,” and marks a job as remote when its location is “Remote.”

2.1.4 – 2026-05-06

  • In sidebar filter mode, multiple states can be checked off simultaneously.
  • State search allows values like Remote, Nationwide, Hybrid, Anywhere, and WFH if present in the job data. These appear at the bottom of the dropdown.
  • When using the RSS download option, the plugin gives up and reports a clear error if it cannot download the data within 2 minutes.
  • The XML and JSON job feed files have been optimized to always match and be generated more quickly.
  • Added new hooks for custom data transformation in API sync mode. See https://learning.pcrecruiter.net/site/docs/job-board/wordpress-plugin/#hooks-for-functions

  • Collapsible filter sections
  • Type-to-filter inputs for long filter lists
  • Result-count badges next to filter options
  • “View all / Show less” toggle for long lists

  • Still works when JavaScript is turned off (falls back to a normal page load)

2.0.14 – 2026-03-27
