Description

This plugin adds two alternative styles (“Slider” and “Slideshow”) to the native WordPress Cover block (Gutenberg).
The slider relies on modern native CSS features (scroll-snap, overflow, anchor-name), complemented by a very lightweight script for keyboard navigation, touch support, and automatic scrolling in slideshow mode.

โœ… Compatible with classic themes and block themes

Features:

  • “Slider” & “Slideshow” Styles: Select the desired style directly in the Styles panel of the native Cover block.
  • Automatic Scrolling (Slideshow): Smooth fade transitions every 5 seconds with automatic pause on mouse hover.
  • Smooth Navigation: Native scroll buttons provided by the browser, mobile touch gesture support (swipe), and endless looping.
  • Keyboard Navigation: As soon as the slider receives focus, navigate easily using the Left Arrow () and Right Arrow () keys.
  • Lightweight & Optimized: Ultra-lightweight CSS, with JS scripts loaded only on pages containing a Cover block.

How to use

  1. Install and activate the Rouergue Creation Slider Native Cover Block plugin.
  2. Open a page or post in the Gutenberg editor.

Is it compatible with all browsers?

The plugin relies on recent CSS Overflow 5 specifications. It is fully supported by Chrome, Edge, Opera, and Safari.
For the Firefox browser, only the Slideshow style is supported.

Does the plugin use JavaScript?

Yes, a very lightweight JavaScript script is used to extend CSS capabilities:
* Keyboard navigation using arrow keys ( / ).
* Automatic scrolling every 5s (Slideshow mode) with pause on hover.
* Improved touch navigation on mobile and loop management.

The visual rendering and layout rely entirely on native CSS.

How does keyboard navigation work?

When the slider or one of its buttons receives focus:
* Right Arrow (): Move to the next slide.
* Left Arrow (): Move to the previous slide.
A loop mode allows jumping from the last slide to the first (and vice versa) with a smooth fade transition.

Why should I set an identical height or aspect ratio for the slides?

To prevent the container from abruptly resizing the page layout when switching between slides,
it is strongly advised to set an identical Aspect Ratio or Minimum Height on the parent block and all of its child blocks.
