Schema Default Image is an extension for the Schema plugin, it extend Schema functionality by adding ability to set a default image, which will be used in schema.org markup output if no Featured image is attached to the post.

Note: This extension requires Schema plugin to be installed and activated on your site.

Google requires every Article and BlogPost to have an image property within its schema.org markup, otherwise you will get an error in Rich Results testing tool and Search Console.

Also, Google recommends uploading a high quality image, it shouldn’t be smaller than the recommended image size.

  1. Upload the entire schema-default-image folder to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory.
  2. DO NOT change the name of the schema-default-image folder.
  3. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress.
  4. In the plugin settings, go to Schema > Types and edit any type to enable default image.
  5. That is all.

Appears to be Broken - But...

This plugin appears not to be working in WordPress 4.9.8 I have tried, with no success, using multiple web browsers. If anyone has a fix, that would be most welcome! 🙂 Update... In our case, there was a fix... Security applications were blocking some functions. For anyone having this issue, try to temporarily make an exception.
