About The Plugin

Simple Directory creates a custom post type (Listings) with the following fields:

  • Address
  • Telephone numbers
  • Website URL
  • Fax number
  • Email address
  • Social links (G+, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Instagram)

Custom Templates

Simple Directory comes with three templates: single-listing.php, archive-listing.php and search-listing.php.
Single-listing.php displays a complete version of the listing including:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Contact info (with click-to-call phone number)
  • Social profiles
  • “Get Directions” link
  • Embedded Google Map

The archive-listing.php template displays the listings in a given category showing the address and phone number, with a click to call link on small screens.

METHOD 1 – INSTALL FROM PLUGIN BROWSER
1. From your WordPress admin panel go to Plugins -> Add New
2. In the search box, type “Simple Directory”
3. Click install.

METHOD 2 – MANUAL UPLOAD

  1. Download the Simple Directory plugin ‘simple-directory.zip’
  2. Login to WordPress and go to Plugins-> Add New -> Upload
  3. Click the Choose File button and select simple-directory.zip from your hard drive.
  4. Click Install Now
  5. Once the plugin has been installed, click Activate.

METHOD 3 – FTP

  1. Download hCard Widget for WordPress plugin ‘simple-directory.zip’. Extract the contents of the file.
  2. Using your favourite FTP client, upload the folder to ‘/wp-content/plugins/’ on your server.
  3. Login to your WordPress account and go to the Plugins page.
  4. Activate the plugin.

This could be a really great plugin. It has a lot of great ideas. However, right now it is poorly implemented and needs more development to work correctly out-of-the-box.

Half-Arsed Release

Not very simple…. Only half the fields display and it took over an hour to work out how to display the categories list!!! DOCS on plugin website is just as half-arsed as the plugin itself. Short code to display categories or complete directory would be simple. Also short code for search doesn’t work

I refuse to use any plugin that requires a secondary plugin in order to use it. Avoid at all costs.

Outstanding Plugin

Great plugin if you're looking to add a robust directory to your WordPress site. And, if you know CSS, you can easily customize the presentation of category indexes and page layouts.

Of note is the excellent support provided by the plugin author. With the one problem that I encountered, he replied to my forum post within minutes and got me back online.

What an Enigma

Poor documentation!
It might work, only how is the question? Lot's of additional plugins required which wasn't pointed out in advance nor in the installation details. BE seems to work but no way to produce a propper FE-display. The author's hint to one similiar complaint -to apply categories - only seems to be half the truth.
Plugin stayed an Enigma.

Back end is nice, no way to implement

Creating listings on the back end is nice and easy, but there doesn't appear to be a way to incorporate the listings on a page, etc. Looking through support questions, this issue seems to be common, but the responses the author gives is that the shortcode is available in the pro version. It would be nice to at least be able to use this free version to some degree, but so far it doesn't seem possible. Not cool.
