ShareToSocial – Social Media Share Buttons & Sharing Icons
ShareToSocial – Social Media Share Buttons & Sharing Icons
Description
ShareToSocial is a simple, lightweight social sharing plugin for WordPress. Add share buttons before or after your content, display them in both places, place them manually with a shortcode, or use an optional floating share bar.
The plugin includes 40+ sharing networks and actions, including popular social networks, messaging services, bookmarking sites, developer communities, AI assistants, and built-in sharing tools.
All social media icons are included as inline SVG icons, and the plugin does not load icon fonts, external libraries, tracking scripts, or third-party assets.
Built with privacy in mind — ShareToSocial does not track visitors or set cookies. Third-party sharing services are contacted only when a visitor chooses to use a share button.
Share networks
ShareToSocial currently supports 44 sharing networks and actions:
-
Social networks: Facebook, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, Pinterest, WhatsApp, Messenger, Telegram, Reddit, Threads, Bluesky, Tumblr, LINE, VK, Snapchat, Mastodon, Weibo, OK.ru, Mail.ru, QQ Zone, Douban, Kakao.
-
Sharing and bookmarking: Hacker News, Instapaper, Flipboard, Buffer, Xing, Digg, Meneame, Blogger, LiveJournal.
-
Messaging and device actions: Email, Copy Link, Native Share, Print, Viber, SMS.
-
AI assistants: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot, DeepSeek, Grok, Meta AI.
You can choose which networks are shown, remove the ones you do not need, and drag them into your preferred order.
Inline share buttons
Choose where inline share buttons appear:
- Before your content
- After your content
- Before and after your content
- Disabled for automatic placement
You can also control:
- Left, centered, or right icon alignment
- Share title and title text
- Which networks show their names
- Which public post types display buttons
- Front page, blog index, and archive visibility
Floating share bar
Enable an optional floating share bar with its own independent network selection and ordering.
Choose:
- Left side
- Right side
- Bottom
- Bottom sticky
Additional controls include:
- Top offset
- Screen-width breakpoint
- Optional mobile hiding
- Automatic hide/reveal while scrolling
- Always-visible, hover, or icon-only labels
- Independent network selection from inline buttons
AI assistant sharing
Add AI assistant buttons that open supported AI services with a prompt asking the assistant to summarize the current page URL.
Supported AI assistants include:
- ChatGPT
- Gemini
- Claude
- Perplexity
- Copilot
- DeepSeek
- Grok
- Meta AI
AI assistant links use the URL formats currently supported by their respective services. Because these are third-party services, their URL-based prompt behavior may change independently of the plugin.
Design controls
Customize the appearance of both inline buttons and the floating bar.
Button styles:
- Rounded
- Square
- Pill
- Outline
- Official Buttons
- Round Text
- Accent Border
- Icons Only
Button sizes:
- Small
- Medium
- Large
- Extra Large
You can also control:
- Spacing between buttons
- Brand colors
- One custom color for all buttons
- Monochrome styling
Advanced controls
ShareToSocial includes additional controls for sharing behavior, performance, accessibility, metadata, tracking, custom CSS, and data management.
Share link behavior
Choose between:
- Popup window
- New tab/window
Performance
Optionally defer the plugin’s frontend script until the page has finished parsing.
Accessibility
- Larger touch targets with a minimum 44×44px target
- Screen-reader labels for icon-only buttons
Open Graph & Twitter Card tags
ShareToSocial can add Open Graph and Twitter Card metadata for supported singular content.
It can use:
- The post title
- A generated description
- The featured image
- The first image found in the content
- A site-wide fallback image
If a supported SEO plugin is already generating the metadata, ShareToSocial skips its own tags to avoid duplicate Open Graph data.
UTM tracking
Optionally append UTM parameters to share URLs for analytics tracking.
utm_source is automatically set to the network name, while `utm_medium` and `utm_campaign` can be customized.
Custom CSS
Add your own CSS to fine-tune the appearance beyond the built-in design options.
Data control
Choose whether plugin settings and per-post overrides should be removed when the plugin is deleted.
A factory reset option is also available to restore all plugin settings to their defaults.
Per-post controls
Each supported post or page can have its own ShareToSocial settings.
From the ShareToSocial panel in the editor, you can independently set:
- Inline Share Buttons: Default, On, or Off
- Floating Share Bar: Default, On, or Off
This lets you override global settings for individual content without changing the site-wide configuration.
Shortcode
Use the [sharetosocial] shortcode to manually place inline share buttons anywhere shortcodes are supported.
Basic usage:
[sharetosocial]
You can also override the heading, networks, URL, and title:
[sharetosocial heading="Share this post" networks="facebook,linkedin,whatsapp" url="https://example.com/" title="My Page Title"]
Shortcode attributes:
heading— custom heading textnetworks— comma-separated network keysurl— custom URLtitle— custom share title
Style, size, gap, and color are controlled by the plugin settings and are not shortcode attributes.
The shortcode works independently of automatic content placement and can also be used in widgets or templates with do_shortcode().
Developer-friendly
ShareToSocial provides filters for developers who want to customize the generated output.
Customize a share SVG icon
Use the stsocial_share_svg_icon filter to modify or replace an individual share icon.
Example:
add_filter( 'stsocial_share_svg_icon', function( $icon, $network ) {
if ( 'facebook' === $network ) {
$icon = '<svg>...</svg>';
}
return $icon;
}, 10, 2 );
Customize the share buttons output
Use the stsocial_share_buttons_output filter to modify the final generated share buttons HTML.
Example:
add_filter( 'stsocial_share_buttons_output', function( $output, $args ) {
return '<div class="my-share-buttons">' . $output . '</div>';
}, 10, 2 );
