Description

Time to Update sends you an email notification whenever updates are available for any of your installed plugins or themes.

For site owners who are not running a security or maintenance plugin that already performs this function, Time to Update provides a simple, lightweight, and set-and-forget solution to help keep your WordPress site up to date.

The plugin runs quietly in the background using WordPress cron and includes specialized logic to ensure that updates for premium themes and plugins (which often require a custom handshake) are accurately detected during background checks. It uses standard WordPress update channels and does not rely on third-party SaaS services.

Features

  • Email notifications when plugin or theme updates are available
  • Clean, readable HTML email format with automatic plain-text fallback
  • Configurable notification email address
  • Configurable update check frequency
  • Manual test email and “Check Now” options
  • Lightweight and self-contained
  • Uses WordPress cron (no external SaaS dependencies)
  1. Upload the time-to-update folder to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory, or install the plugin via the WordPress Plugins screen.
  2. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ screen in WordPress.
  3. Go to Settings Time to Update to configure your notification preferences.
Does this plugin install updates automatically?

No. Time to Update only notifies you when updates are available. You remain in full control of when and how updates are applied.

How often does the plugin check for updates?

The check frequency can be configured on the settings page (Twice Daily, Daily, or Weekly).

Does this plugin replace a security plugin?

No. This plugin is designed to provide update notifications only. It does not include security scanning, firewall protection, or malware detection.

Does it send data to third-party services?

No. Time to Update does not send your data to any external tracking or SaaS services. It only pings the standard WordPress and theme/plugin developer update APIs (like WordPress.org or Elegant Themes) to check for the latest versions.
