Description

UAIP Yet Another PDF Editor puts a PDF viewer and editor on your pages. Visitors can read a PDF, mark it up, sign it or fill it in, and download their own copy, all in the browser. Every feature is free: there is no premium version, no locked settings and no upgrade notices.

Flipbook

  • Show any PDF from your Media Library as a book with turning pages: magazines, brochures, catalogues, menus, yearbooks. No account and no conversion service: the pages are drawn in the visitor’s browser from your own PDF.
  • Turn pages by clicking, dragging a corner, swiping, or with the keyboard.
  • Two-page spreads on wide screens, one page on phones.
  • The first page as a cover, or pages paired from the start.
  • Right-to-left books for Arabic, Hebrew, Jawi or manga.
  • Show only the cover on the page; the flipbook opens in a lightbox when it is clicked.
  • Thumbnail strip, page number box, download, print and full screen. Links in the PDF stay clickable.
  • One click switches to the document viewer for search, zoom, annotating and signing.
  • Follows the visitor’s “reduce motion” setting, and screen readers can read the page text.

Annotate and sign

  • Highlight text in five colours.
  • Draw freehand, in five colours and three sizes.
  • Add text boxes and images.
  • Sign: draw a signature with mouse, finger or pen, or type your name. Place, move and resize it anywhere on the page.
  • Undo, redo and delete.
  • Download saves everything into the visitor’s copy of the PDF. Nothing is uploaded to your site, so there is no personal data to store.
  • Turn it off site-wide or per block if you only want a viewer.

Viewer

  • Continuous scrolling with page numbers you can type in.
  • Search inside the document, with all matches highlighted.
  • Clickable links and a table of contents (outline).
  • Thumbnails sidebar.
  • Zoom: automatic, page width, page fit, actual size and percentages.
  • Download, print and full screen buttons (each can be turned off).
  • Text selection and copy.
  • Visitors can fill in PDF forms and download the completed copy.
  • Password-protected PDFs ask the visitor for the password.
  • Keyboard shortcuts and screen-reader labels; works with keyboard only.
  • Light, dark or automatic colours.

Fast pages

  • Nothing loads on pages without a PDF.
  • The viewer loads only when it scrolls into view, or when the visitor clicks “Load PDF” if you prefer.
  • No jQuery. PDFs are read straight from your Media Library, so large files load page by page.
  • Built on a current release of pdf.js (Mozilla’s PDF engine), which never runs JavaScript from inside a PDF.

Easy to use

  • PDF Viewer block: upload or pick a PDF, then set the height, start page, zoom and toolbar buttons per block. The editor shows a live preview.
  • PDF Flipbook block: the same block, shown as a book. Switch any PDF Viewer block between the two in its settings.
  • Shortcode: [yape_pdf id="123"] or [yape_flipbook id="123"] for classic content, widgets and page builders.
  • Turn a File block that links to a PDF into a PDF Viewer block in one click.

Coming next

Page tools (rotate, reorder, delete, merge, redact) in the Media Library, and sending completed forms and signed PDFs to the site. All free.

Is there a premium version?

No. Everything is free.

Which shortcode options are there?

[yape_pdf id=”123″ height=”80vh” page=”2″ zoom=”page-width” download=”no” print=”no” search=”yes” sidebar=”yes” fullscreen=”yes” annotate=”no” thumbnails=”open” load=”click” toolbar=”none” title=”Annual report”]

Use id for a PDF from the Media Library, or url for a PDF at another address. width limits the viewer’s maximum width.

Which flipbook options are there?

[yape_flipbook id=”123″ height=”80vh” page=”1″ cover=”no” rtl=”yes” lightbox=”yes” width=”300px” thumbnails=”open” download=”no” print=”no” fullscreen=”yes”]

[yape_flipbook] is the same as `[yape_pdf mode="flipbook"]`. `cover="no"` pairs pages from the first page instead of showing it alone. `rtl="yes"` turns pages from right to left. `lightbox="yes"` shows only the cover (at most `width` wide, 240px by default), and the flipbook opens over the page when it is clicked. `sidebar` controls the thumbnail strip, and `search`, `zoombar` or `annotate` add a button that opens the document viewer.

Where does the lightbox cover image come from?

When WordPress can make a preview image of the PDF at upload (your host needs Imagick with PDF support), that image is used. Otherwise the visitor’s browser draws the first page.

Can I show a PDF from another website?

Yes, with url, as long as that website allows cross-origin requests (CORS). Otherwise browsers block it. Uploading the PDF to your Media Library always works.

Does it stop people from downloading my PDF?

You can hide the download and print buttons. A PDF shown in a browser can still be saved by a determined visitor, so do not rely on this to protect confidential files.

Are signatures legally binding?

The signature is a picture of a handwritten or typed signature placed on the PDF, like signing a printed page. It is not a cryptographic digital signature (certificate). Whether that is enough depends on your use and your local laws.

Where are annotations and signatures stored?

Only in the visitor’s browser until they download the PDF. Nothing is sent to your site or anywhere else.

Does the plugin contact external services?

No. All files are served from your own site.

Does it work with security plugins and firewalls?

Yes. The viewer loads PDFs and its own files directly from your site and does not send PDF addresses in request parameters, so firewall rules that block URLs in query strings are not triggered.

0.2.1

  • Fix: in the block editor preview, text of PDFs with embedded fonts showed as empty boxes.

0.2.0

  • New: flipbook. Show a PDF as a book with turning pages, from the PDF Flipbook block, the block’s “Show as” setting or the [yape_flipbook] shortcode. Cover page, right-to-left books, lightbox from a cover image, thumbnail strip, download, print, full screen and clickable links.

0.1.0

  • First release: PDF Viewer block, [yape_pdf] shortcode, search, thumbnails, outline, links, zoom, download, print, full screen, form filling, annotate (highlight, draw, text, images) and sign, password-protected PDFs, lazy loading.
