  1. Search, install, and activate the WP-Stateless plugin via your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Begin WP-Stateless setup assistant at Media > Stateless Setup and click “Get Started Now.”
  3. Click “Google Login” and sign-in with your Google account.
  4. Set a Google Cloud Project, Google Cloud Storage Bucket, and Google Cloud Billing Account and click “Continue.”
  5. Installation and setup is now complete. Visit Media > Stateless Settings for more options.

What are the minimum server requirements for this plugin?

Beyond the official WordPress minimum requirements, WP-Stateless requires a minimum PHP version of 8.0 or higher and OpenSSL to be enabled.

What wp-config constants are supported?

How do I manually generate the Service Account JSON?

The WP-Stateless setup assistant will create the Service Account JSON automatically for you, but you can follow these steps if you choose to create it manually.

  1. Visit Google Cloud Console, and go to IAM & Admin > Service accounts.
  2. Click Create Service Account and name it wp-stateless.
  3. Set the role to Storage > Storage Admin.
  4. Check Furnish a new private key and select JSON as the key type.
  5. Open the JSON file and copy the contents into the Service Account JSON textarea within the WP-Stateless settings panel.

To fix this issue, I ran the following command to disable Uniform Bucket-Level Access:

gsutil uniformbucketlevelaccess set off gs://yourbucket

If you don’t have gsutil installed, you can create a new bucket through the Google Cloud Console and ensure that detailed object-level permissions (ACL) are enabled.Explanation:

  • Uniform (Bucket-Level Access Enabled): This setting enforces consistent permissions at the bucket level using IAM roles only. It disables object-level ACLs, meaning individual object permissions can’t be customized. While it's more secure for some use cases, WP Stateless seems to require detailed object-level ACLs to function correctly.
  • Detailed (Object-Level Permissions Enabled): By disabling Uniform Bucket-Level Access, you can manage permissions for individual objects using ACLs. This flexibility allowed WP Stateless to sync media files without issues.

After disabling Uniform Bucket-Level Access, the sync worked perfectly, and I didn’t encounter any further problems.

Dead, Not Supported, Creates Conflicts that are unresolvable

This is a dead plugin. There is no support. Support forum is dead an you won't get a response. Conflicts with so many other plugins that unless you have a simple static site (which means you probably don't need media offloading), you will end up wasting your time chasing gremlins that at the end of the day, point back to WP Stateless as the culprit. UDX needs to just pull this plugin or sell it to someone who cares enough about the WP community to maintain it. They are hurting people. Very disappointing.

Looks promising, but works incredibly bad

The plugin is a promising plugin with nice features, but works very bad and lacks of some features that for me are important. For example, instead of to allow to use the default service account in the instance, you have to install the service account JSON which is less secure.
Another thing that lacks is the possibility to continue the syncs or even ignore the errors. If the process fails (which happens all the time), you have to restart the process from the begining. The sync is badly done and it stops without reason. Three days I have lost trying to sync a site and all the time the process stops without even saying why, it just says that has synced one image and nothing else. The plugin just stops saying that is syncing images and the progress bar doesn't continues, but the plugin still thinking that is "in progress".

If your site is new then will works fine for you, but If your site already have uploads in local, you will loose your mind trying to upload the files using the sync feature.

Another problems that I have found is that the plugin doesn't fully cares about the constants (at least in multisite). The admin page shows the correct settings but when you are using the plugin they are not respected, giving "empty settings" errors when uploading. The support is almost inexistent and they are obsessed with the idea that the problem is that I don't know how to use the constants. Looks like I am too stupid to know how to correcly use a "define" in PHP.

A robust and effective offloading plugin

I know there are many other options and ways to deliver images but I have been using the WP-Stateless for the last couple of years and it has been great, no issues, once you get around how to do the setup you will be fine. Great plugin!

Uso este plugin em diversos sites com resultados excelentes. Nunca tive qualquer problema em nenhum momento. Aplico sempre no tema DIVI usando Litespeed Cache e tdo funciona maravilhosamente bem. Agradeço aos desenvolvedores pelo excelente trabalho.

Plugin Broke Website

Plugin broke the permalink structure and set the website in a state of emergency. 404 errors on all pages expect the index. Done the manual integration, although images are serving from the cloud storage as described the layout of the pages broke whenever stateless is activated. Uninstalled and left with a mess that need a fixing. Don’t try on production websites! I was lucky that I have tried it in development environment

Doesn't work at all and traffic usage is a concern

Not sure why this plugin is allowed on the official WP Plugin directory. The only thing that its 'synchronisation' does is add a whole lot of records to the postmeta table, but not a single object was ever added to the specified bucket. No errors, and no activity whatsoever on the bucket, just an email from the plugin to notify of its completion. Traffic usage went up significantly in correlation to the synchronisation period, so it also feels dodgy, because where was all that traffic going? Unfortunately, I tried it out on a managed hosting account, which means I'm unable to investigate the nature of that traffic much further. I don't have time to investigate the plugin code itself either right now, but felt I should at least take a couple minutes to warn others. I don't normally complain about free things, but no paid option is available and this is a potentially harmful plugin.
