It's the best WordPress plugin for automatically generating images in posts from an image URL that I've ever tried, it's very light and works great even with the latest version. The URL must be present in the post and the image can also be hosted on an external server: the plugin will take the first image in the post, make it the featured image of the post and also insert it in the media list. Excellent.

All it does is a process bar that slowly goes to 100%, but in the end 0 featured images were created from uploaded image in the post. I still have to set them manually.

After doing a long import of posts, it generates thumbnails for each post.

XO Featured Image is the ONLY plugin that works reliably to automatically set a featured image. I do many transfers from Blogger and TypePad to WordPress, and this is the only plugin that consistently works for setting the featured images for these posts. It's simplicity itself, without a ton of settings. Thanks for providing such a stable plugin!

Thank you for the great plugin. Is exactly what I was looking for and the best plugin you can find for this purpose... But: The following image URLs often appear in my posts: image.jpg?uid=Yi3w9CE. These image files are not captured by your plugin. So far I only knew this from form data transmissions like: index.html?var=123. But I have such pictures in my posts. Can you fix this in the next update please?

My suggested solution would be:

Originally I reviewed this in Nov 2020 at 5 stars. Sadly on WP 5.9.3 it seems to be half broken. When you run the tool it just says "Posts not found". I had mixed results removing a an existing outdated featured image and when the post reloads in the Dashboard, the plugin did actually add the correct default image. Unfortunately wasn't able to get a reply in the support section. Such a shame, I've found nothing as good as this was for this simple job. Hopefully normal good service and reliability will resume! Original review: Having looked for a simple plugin to generate a featured image from existing posts, this did the job fast and efficiently. Only about 80 posts, it took about a minute. They all look great in the Divi Theme front end, which is set to display a full width blog post title. Saved a lot of time, no fuss, no bloat and you get the bonus of seeing tiny thumbnails next to the posts in the Admin Dashboard. It didn't lose the existing featured images I'd already set up manually. Nice job, thank you!

This is a replacement from "Auto Featured Image (Auto Post Thumbnail)". Anyway, I think it's good that it is simple without any extra functions. I don't want this kind of plugin to be highly functional. Rather, I emphasize stable operation.
